Fiber Service Extension Planned to Atchison’s Amelia Earhart Airport

Fiber Internet Will Be in Atchison in 2019!

The need for reliable and high-speed internet at the soon to be completed Atchison Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum (AEHM) has led to plans for a fiber internet extension. The project also will benefit county residents living along the route to the museum, located at the Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport. A partnership between the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation (AAEF) and Rainbow Communications has made the project possible.

Rainbow Communications will be constructing a buried fiber optic main line along 286th Road from Shannon Industrial Park, approximately four miles east, to the Amelia Earhart Airport. This fiber optic connection will enable the AEHM and businesses at the airport access to fast, reliable fiber optic internet speeds up to 1G.

In March, The AAEF and Rainbow Communications executed and Memorandum of Understanding for the project. The AAEF is contributing $171,602.00 toward the construction and extension.

Construction is set to begin July 1, 2019 with a completion date on or before October 1, 2019.
