In 1976, President Gerald Ford proclaimed February 1 as the inaugural day of Black History Month, urging everyone to “seize the opportunity to honor the often overlooked achievements of Black Americans across all fields throughout our history.”
Each Wednesday this February, the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum proudly shines a spotlight on the remarkable African American women aviators who have bravely pursued their dreams, overcoming countless challenges and barriers. Join us in celebrating their accomplishments on this 50th anniversary of President Ford’s proclamation.
