Get Inside Earhart’s Virtual Flight Simulator
Whether you are an experienced pilot or you dream of being an aviator one day, you can experience the sights, sounds, and challenges of Earhart’s trans-Atlantic flight. A Virtual Reality experience re-creates her 14-hour and 54-minute flight May 20-21, 1932. Amelia flew her red Vega 5B airplane non-stop and solo across the Atlantic Ocean, leaving Grace Harbour, Newfoundland, and landing in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Amelia was the first woman in history to accomplish the dangerous flight, proving her skill as a female aviator. Get ready to test your aviation prowess!
Try Your Luck in the Pilot Seat
Are you ready? A virtual reality headset places you inside the cockpit of Amelia’s “Little Red Bus,” a Lockheed Vega 5B, while you physically sit inside a small version of that same cockpit to mimic Amelia’s metal surroundings.
Choose “easy” or “hard” mode and you’re ready for take off. If you stay on course, you will land in Paris, France. If you fly off course, as Amelia did, you will land in Northern Ireland among a field of cows. Adventure awaits!
NOTE: The Museum recommends parental discretion for children younger than 10 as the virtual flight simulator is highly immersive; some scenes include nighttime views, rain, lightning, and thunder. Smaller children may lack the strength to wear the VR glasses properly. We will happily test the fit to aid in your decision! The VR experience is roughly four minutes once the headset is secured. The museum sanitizes headsets between each pilot.
