The Useful Stars: The Night Sky as Calendar, Navigation Aid, and Cultural Repository

Rick Heschmeyer with the Astronomy Associates of Lawrence shares the basics of astronomy and then we head outside the airport for some stargazing.

Time: 7 PM for program, and opportunity to view stars with telescopes outside at 8 PM. 

Cost: $10 for Non-members, $5 for members

About Rick Heschmeyer 

Rick Heschmeyer has been an amateur astronomer for 35 years, drawn to the hobby after viewing Halley’s Comet through a telescope at the University of Kansas’ Tombaugh Observatory in 1985. He is currently President of the Astronomy Associates of Lawrence, the local astronomy club in Lawrence, Kansas. He was accepted into the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Program in 2006. He is also a member of The Astronomical League, one of the largest amateur astronomical organizations in the world and has been awarded their Master Outreach Award. He enjoys sharing his passion for astronomy with others and his astronomy outreach efforts have been featured in print, television, radio, and online.
