Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport (K59)

The airport is a popular destination for pilots and aviation enthusiasts. The recent construction of the Museum’s 17,000 square-foot hangar facility included a renovated terminal, pilot’s lounge, and community gathering space. The facility’s Art Deco design motifs are reminiscent of Earhart’s lifetime in the 1920s and 1930s, one of the most innovative periods in aviation history.

The Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport, conveniently located outside the Kansas City International Airport’s commercial airspace, offers fuel service, aircraft maintenance and rental, and flight instruction.

We spent two happy hours at the new Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum in Atchison. The exhibits educate visitors about the town, Amelia, airplanes, and historic aviators. The restored Lockheed Electra 10-E (named Muriel) is the centerpiece of the museum — shiny, clean, and large — so very impressive. We came to Atchison to see Amelia’s birthplace and are very glad that we discovered this museum too!
